Do you know these Opt-In List Secrets?
Courtesy Jim Daniels, of Work-at-home-site.com

I regularly converse with dozens of opt-in list owners on the web and I've collected quite a few tidbits of information over the years. Today I'd like to share this collection of Opt-in List secrets with you.

An opt-in list is truly the best tool you can use to grow a business online. And I'm quite sure many of you will find these "insider tips" interesting and useful. So let's get started...

Did you know that...

... Nearly all of the largest opt-in lists are grown rapidly via popups or popunders. Not purchased popup ads mind you, but popups at the publishers own sites. Most of these publishers have another thing in common as well. They have an active affiliate program of their own, which brings lots of traffic.

For example, I give away my ebook called "A Beginner's Guide to Starting A High Income Business On the Internet", via an "exit popunder" at my http://www.make-a-living-online.com site. My affiliates promote the site heavily and approximately 20% of all visitors download the free book and opt-in to my list. If a subscriber returns to the site and buys my package, the affiliate who generated the subscriber still earns a commission, so everyone wins!

If you're not using "free gift popunders" in conjunction with your own affiliate program, I suggest you start today.

Did you know that...

... Many publishers today are simply "buying" their lists. It's a decent option for folks without busy websites of their own. A lady by the name of Laurie Rogers has built a service for publishers who want to jump-start a new list or add to an existing list. At her site you can simply "purchase" your subscribers, and the price is about the best I've seen for this quick list building option. Although I have not tried it personally, I have heard reports of it being effective. Get details by clicking "List Builder" <A HREF="http://www.bizweb2000.com/buyalist">here.</A>

Did you know that...

... More and more ezine publishers are simply using web based autoresponder services to publish their ezines. Rather than paying a list host hundreds of dollars a month, a top-notch autoresponder service can do the job and in most cases you'll pay per YEAR what you would pay a list host per MONTH.

Did you know that...

... The typical readership of the average email newsletter is less than 10%. And less than 10% of actual readers will click to any give link in your ezine. That means if you have 10,000 subscribers, less than 1,000 of them may even open your message. And maybe 100 will click through to a link. Of course some ezines have MUCH higher readerships and response rates. And still others suffer from much lower rates.

The best two methods I've found to improve those numbers are:

  1. sharing interesting/helpful information regularly
  2. always using a different and intriguing subject line.

Did you know that...

... Those readership and click-through numbers above are still more cost-effective than any other form of online advertising I've tried. This includes banner advertising, pay per click advertising and guaranteed traffic deals. The main reason email newsletter publishing is so effective is that it establishes you as an authority in your niche market. That in itself is invaluable. Plus, you get your products and services exposed over and over to a targeted list, instead of always paying for fresh prospects. Starting to see the value growing an opt-in list and publishing your own email newsletter?

Did you know that...

... If you primarily promote affiliate programs there is a new way you can grow an opt-in list that promotes your affiliate links. It is 100% hands-free with nothing to write, maintain or deliver. It's part of my new service to help affiliates grow their commission checks and all the details are at http://www.bizweb2000.com/getasite.htm - it's a great way to get an opt-in list started.

Did you know that...

... The more an opt-in list owner uses their list, the LESS effective it becomes. That's because subscribers want useful information on a regularly scheduled basis -- NOT sales pitch after sales pitch. Although a special "solo release" to your list can result in a windfall of profit, the key to long-term profits with an opt-in list is to focus on great CONTENT and keep your "special releases" truly special. You do this by limiting your "offers" to monthly at the most. (I prefer to do it quarterly.)

Did you know that...

Every opt-in list owner receives nasty and rude complaints on a regular basis. Not a week goes by that I don't get at least one. It comes with the territory. The complaints vary from spam accusations to plain whining. And it is amazing how rude some people can be when using email. The best way to handle these "flame" emails is to simply delete the member from your list and then delete their email message. Replying to them is a waste of time.

Did you know that...

... More secrets of top ezine publishers have been published by John Stafford of ListSecrets.com. In fact, he has just released a book that shares the list building secrets of myself and several other established list builders, and has generously offered the book to my subscribers at no cost... http://www.listsecrets.com/listmasters.html
